“For many years, humanity has tried to go beyond Earth in search of answers about the cosmos and the infinite, but in doing so it hasn’t solved its own problems, it hasn’t looked within. But is looking within useful? Is it easy? Or does it only lead to more questions? I chose Solaris because it reflects on who we are, and it does so on another planet. My high school philosophy teacher showed me this film, and it fascinated me because it wasn’t the usual kind of science fiction we’re used to in the West, it didn’t have the typical plot where someone has to save someone else or save the Earth. Instead, it focuses on the characters and their inner struggles. This film is definitely at the root of my passion for Soviet cinema”

“L’uomo per tanti anni ha provato ad andare fuori dalla Terra per cercare delle risposte sul cosmo, sull’infinito, in realtà però non ha risolto i propri problemi, non ha guardato dentro di sé: ma guardare dentro di sé serve? È facile? O porta solo nuovi interrogativi? Ho scelto Solaris perché si interroga su di noi e lo fa su un altro pianeta. Questo film me l’ha fatto vedere la mia professoressa di filosofia del liceo, mi ha entusiasmato perché non era il solito film di fantascienza a cui siamo abituati noi occidentali, non aveva la solita trama dove qualcuno deve salvare qualcun altro o dove devono salvare la Terra, è invece incentrato sui personaggi e sui loro problemi. Questo film è sicuramente all’origine della mia passione per il cinema sovietico”
