Film People Project

Film People Project is a photographic archive of people and the films that shaped their lives

It’s a Wonderful Life always makes me cry, it’s a wonderful piece of storytelling. Many years ago I wasn’t a fan of Capra, I was sent to America because I was commissioned to write a book about him, and I fell in love with Frank Capra, whom I had previously thought of as a kind of paternalistic conservative. Instead, he’s a director who explores the contradictions of America. In particular, I always cry at the moment when, after the nightmare of never having been born, life returns. It may seem like a Christian fairy tale for children, but it’s really a film about America”
