I 400 Colpi (1959)

“I’m in love with this film. Antoine Doinel is a bit like my cinematic alter ego, there’s a kind of spiritual affinity between us. I first watched this film at university, during a time when I too, like Antoine, was trying to find my place in the world. I felt constantly restless, sometimes misunderstood. Like him, I was a dreamer, a romantic. I don’t see myself as particularly rebellious, but the way Antoine Doinel never fully accepts society’s rules and always does things his own way resonates with me in a special way. It represents something that I still feel beating inside me, because deep down we all need a long escape toward the sea”
