“The 400 Blows (Les 400 Coups) is very close to my idea of education. Education is something you have to draw out of teenagers, you shouldn’t impose it, otherwise it becomes instruction, which in my opinion is something different. We often underestimate young people. Instinctively they already know what their path is, also because sometimes when you get lost, the path comes to meet you. I think the film shows this, especially in that wonderful ending. This film also makes me think about a person I’m still connected to. Even though our love story ended, we keep traveling together on the wave of art, I’m a painter. When we got together I was already older, I was twelve years older than her, she was nineteen. At the time she had the chance to go to University of Cambridge but she chose to stay with me, and afterwards we watched this film. That choice still connects us today, and it continues thanks to this film”

“I 400 Colpi si avvicina molto al mio concetto di educazione. L’educazione è qualcosa che bisogna tirar fuori dagli adolescenti, non bisogna imporla, altrimenti diventa istruzione, che secondo me è diverso. Noi spesso sottovalutiamo i ragazzi, istintivamente loro già sanno qual è la loro strada, anche perché spesso quando ti perdi è la strada a venirti incontro. Il film secondo me dimostra questo, soprattutto in quel meraviglioso finale. Questo film inoltre mi fa pensare ad una persona alla quale sono ancora legato: nonostante la nostra storia d’amore sia finita, continuiamo a viaggiare insieme sull’onda dell’arte, io sono pittore. Quando ci siamo messi insieme io ero già grande, avevo 12 anni più di lei, che era diciannovenne. A quel tempo aveva la possibilità di andare a Cambridge ma scelse di rimanere con me e dopo guardammo questo film: questa sua scelta ci lega tuttora e continua proprio grazie a questo”
