“I was about to start working for a Swedish company and I needed to speak in English. I thought about taking a course, but I already knew English, I just needed to speak it and get over my shyness. I’m shy, introverted, so I thought I’d throw myself into something that made me uncomfortable, and I decided to take a theater course. At the beginning I was trembling, but after a year I was going on stage and feeling at home, people were having fun and I was lively. They told me that when I was younger I used to dress in a bizarre way, with strange hairstyles, they thought I was eccentric. Actually, at the time the only thing that really defined me was the flat cap. I got that hat from Samuel L. Jackson in Jackie Brown, and I thought I had to choose it because that look influenced my life a lot. His character has an incredibly cool style, especially for someone like me who came from the outskirts of Naples. The flat cap was very important to me in those years, when I walked into clubs wearing those unusual hats, people suddenly had a reason to start talking to me”

“Dovevo cominciare a lavorare per una compagnia svedese e dovevo parlare in inglese. Ho pensato di fare un corso, ma io l’inglese già lo sapevo, avevo solo bisogno di parlarlo e di superare la timidezza. Sono timido, introverso, ho pensato quindi di buttarmi in qualcosa che mi creava imbarazzo, così ho deciso di fare un corso di teatro. All’inizio tremavo, dopo un anno invece salivo sul palco e mi sentivo a casa, la gente si divertiva, ero brillante. Mi hanno detto che secondo loro io da giovane mi vestivo in modo bizzarro, con acconciature strane, pensavano fossi eccentrico. In realtà ai tempi l’unica cosa che mi caratterizzava era la coppola, quel cappello l’ho preso da Samuel L. Jackson in Jackie Brown e ho pensato che dovessi sceglierlo perché quel look ha influenzato moltissimo la mia vita. Il suo personaggio ha uno stile fighissimo, visto da uno come me che veniva dalla periferia di Napoli: la coppola per me è stata molto importante in quegli anni, quando entravo nei locali con quei cappelli strani gli altri avevano un pretesto per parlare con me”
