“I still have a vivid memory of the impression that Happiness made on me, which was very strong. These are very intimate stories about very ordinary people who, however, have something monstrous within that normality. Sometimes normal life crushes people and brings out something truly poisonous, because normality feels too tight for us. People are filled with currents, with impulses, that often go beyond the boundaries of normality, and if they aren’t channeled, sublimated, brought to the surface in a safe and controlled way, they can really turn against themselves or against others. You always feel like something terrible could happen at any moment”

“Ho un ricordo ancora vivo dell’impressione che mi fece Happiness, che era molto forte. Sono storie molto intime di persone molto normali che però hanno qualcosa di mostruoso in questa normalità: a volte la normalità schiaccia le persone e fa fuoriuscire qualcosa di veramente venefico, perché la normalità ci va stretta. Le persone sono pervase da correnti, da pulsioni, che spesso superano i confini della normalità e se non vengono incanalate, sublimate, portate in superficie in modo sicuro e controllato possono veramente ritorcersi contro se stessi o contro gli altri. Si è sempre sul filo che possa succedere qualcosa di terribile da un momento all’altro”
