“For me, Tabu is a very important film because it’s the first one I watched with Yuri, my husband. At the time we were roommates, and we hadn’t gone out together all winter. The first time we did, we went to see this film at a very old cinema in Lausanne, run by an elderly woman. The film tells the story of a troubled love affair set in Africa, where a Portuguese woman, pregnant with her husband’s child, falls in love with another man from a different social class. It is also an allegory of Portugal’s colonial past, a subject that means a great deal to me because colonialism is one of the central themes of my work”

“Per me Tabu è un film molto importante perché è il primo che ho visto con Yuri, mio marito. A quei tempi eravamo coinquilini e non eravamo mai usciti per tutto l’inverno. La prima volta che siamo usciti insieme siamo andati in questo cinema di Losanna molto vecchio, gestito da una donna anziana. Il film racconta una storia d’amore tormentata, ambientata in Africa, in cui una donna portoghese, incinta di suo marito, ha una storia con un altro uomo, che non apparteneva alla sua stessa classe sociale. Il film è anche un’allegoria sul passato colonialista del Portogallo, un argomento che mi interessa molto perché il colonialismo è uno dei temi centrali del mio lavoro”
