Film People Project

Film People Project is a photographic archive of people and the films that shaped their lives

“The first time I saw it at the cinema, I remember the moment just before the end credits, when the title appears: The Shape of Water. I think it has a unique power, because water is like love, it takes the shape of whatever contains it. I think it’s the perfect title because it immediately conveys a sense of magic and love. There’s a sensitivity to this film that kept me glued to the screen until the very end, especially in the way it brings a creature to life and makes it human. Perhaps this also has something to do with my dad. I had a complicated relationship with him, and he’s no longer with us, but my love of cinema began in those moments, and I carry that with me in this way. That feeling of being invisible or pushed aside is something I somehow found in this film, perhaps unconsciously. Del Toro always brings out the child in me”
